Missed a whole month!!! Opps!

Well, apparently I didn't blog about anything in May!
It was a good month, busy, but good.

Kevin had a birthday and we celebrated quietly. Megan was sick with strep, so it was just us 4 + the dog. We ate crab cakes from Sea King and ice cream cake from Trader Joes. Here are the girls playing outside while Kevin played with his new Wii game.


Have I told you that I LOVE Trader Joes? Well I very love it (to borrow a quote from my niece Cara). They have such a neat selection of stuff and their prices are reasonable and most of it is more natural than the grocery store stuff I usually buy. My current favs are the vegetable fried rice, the orange chicken and the sweet and sour chicken. Megan even likes these!

We've officially taken possession of our camper, it's been in storage at Kev's parents' house (we bought it from them). We hope to go on a few short trips this summer. I'm a little apprehensive about it as I'm not a "camper" but I'm looking forward to making memories with the girls. I'm sure I'll be blogging about our trips, so check back! Here's our new camper-

Bedtime delay tactic??

I think my girls may have found a bedtime delay tactic that I'm not sure I know what to do with.

We do bedtime prayers each night. Megan will thank God for each stuffed animal in her room one at a time (if you've been in her room you know that could take forever), then she'll thank him for every person and animal she can think of- one at a time. I'm glad she's thankful and wants to talk to God, but bedtime takes forever that way!

Last night I was putting Kellie to bed and we did prayers. I said "Amen" told Kel it was time to go to bed and started to get up to put her in her crib. She shook her head "no" and folded her hands like she does while we pray and bowed her head. As if she was saying "I can't go to bed yet, I've got more praying to do". Obediently, I sat back down in the chair with her. She sat with folded hands and bowed head for a moment or two, then pointed to her crib. As if to say "OK, I'm done, now I can go to bed"

Is it wrong to say "no more praying, go to bed"?? That just sounds wrong! Ah, my girls, such interesting ones!

Stealing at Church

Kellie has a problem. She loves shoes, she likes to put on and take off shoes- her own shoes and the shoes of others.

Kev picked Kellie up from Sunday School and as we are leaving I said "Umm, Kev, those aren't Kel's shoes".

As we walked back in the door of the nursery I hear "well whose black shoes are these then?" I said "Kellie's. And whose pink shoes are these?" One of the ladies took the shoes and raced after a parent whose child was missing these cute sparkly pink shoes.

Apparently, Kellie managed to get the little girl's shoes off of her and put them on herself, she'd had them on most of the time she was in class. They were the right size and looked cute with Kellie's dress, too. Hence the confusion.

Ya know, it's bad enough when your kid steals something, but to do it in the church nursery, there are no words...

We got home from church, Kellie headed for her closet and pulled out a pr of dark pink sparkly shoes that are a size too small. She insisted on wearing them, I didn't argue, at least they were her shoes.

ihop not = icrazy!

My mom, granny, and oldest sister all have birthdays this week. So, my younger sister decided we would meet for breakfast one day to celebrate. She let mom pick and she picked IHOP.

I thought,7 kids (9 yrs old to 21 months old), 5 adults at a sit down restaurant= CRAZY and a few laughs (even if they were laughs in retrospect about how crazy we were).

We have all done breakfast together, but it was at Panera Bread where we're well known and where the kids can run around in the mall.

But it went really well. I was very proud of the kids, they were well behaved. And some of our fellow patrons even remarked that the kids were good! Our sever, Jessie was good and that helped a lot too!

We did get some looks as we paraded thru the restaurant to our table, then to and from the bathroom and then out the door. But we are a crowd.

More importantly, it was WONDERFUL to have 4 generations sitting down together having a good time just being together. We are blessed that Granny is healthy and that we all live close enough to get together.

It was a wonderful day!

The "eyes" have it

Today was Megan's every 3 month eye check up and Kellie's 1st exam.

At Meg's last exam they did a quick look at Kel, has some concerns and wanted to see her back for a more in depth look.

Kellie is farsighted, but her farsightedness is pretty equal in both eyes. So we shouldn't have issues with "lazy eye" (btw- I don't like that term, it is what they call what Megan has, but it doesn't even being to describe it and makes it sound like it's her fault- anyway off my soapbox). Kel doesn't have to go back for 3 years! YEAH! Now I just have to remember to make the appt in 3 yrs!

Megan's eyes are about the same as last time, which is ok, not great but ok. She made great progress before, but we knew things would likely slow down. We admitted to the Dr that we struggle with remembering to make her wear her patch. So, the Dr asked Megan to help us remember (yeah right, she loves that we forget!)and kind of scolded us through that, but we haven't been good about it lately, so we deserved it! We've done well with her blurring drop though.

Hopefully if we are more diligent with the patching we will see more improvement next time.

In July, Meg goes back again and they will give us a new prescription for her glasses.

Kev, I, and the Ophthalmoligst are still amazed at how much progress she has made from the little girl who could barely see anything out of that left eye even with glasses to the girl who can see planes in the sky!

sentimental fool, am I

We are in the process of turning Meg's room into a "big girl room". She has new furniture arriving on Tuesday and today the room is being painted pink - mostly "bright hot pink" as Megan requested.

We were almost finished clearing out her room ealier today as I took a print off the wall. I had chosen it when we were 1st pregnant with Megan and it has always meant a lot to me. It became the theme for her room and I even bought a comforter set that was of the same theme.

Today, I realized that it's baby colors andt heme no longer go with her more grown up room.

Megan asked me to read the words of the print to her. As I did, tears ran down my face, remembering the miracle that our Megan is (well that both of our girls are) and how long we waited for her and all the dreams I still have for her. I love that over 6 yrs later it still means a lot to me. Now to find a special place to keep it!

Birthday Party Fun!!

Last weekend we celebrated Meg's 6th birthday. I can't believe she is 6!

Saturday we did an adult party and it was quiet and calm and enjoyable.

Sunday we did her kid party, it was not quiet and not calm, but it was fun! We did the party at Pump It Up, an inflatable jumpy thingy place. Even though about half of the invited guests were sick and not able to come we had a BALL!

The kids ran and played, many of the adults did the same.
Nana even jumped and slid down the slides and laughed. It was so good to see her smile.

The staff took care of pretty much everything- I just had to bring the cake and drinks. They set up the room, monitored the kids and kept things moving, cut and gave out the cake, wrote down the list of gifts, cleaned up. That was nice to be able to enjoy and not be stressed! So worth the $$!

Megan had a really good time and that is what is most important!
